B&E-SY: Work-wise – Developing Tomorrow’s Talent
Kevin Parkin, Managing Director at DavyMarkham thanked 50 business leaders for giving their backing to a unique, locally developed programme, aimed at encouraging and supporting young people access job opportunities in manufacturing and engineering, at the launch of ‘work-wise’ at The Cutlers Hall on Friday 30th April.
Speaking at the launch, Richard Caborn gave his personal endorsement to the initiative which has been developed by a group of leading companies with support from Business & Education, South Yorkshire.
“£60bn will be spent on nuclear developments, representing 4% of global spend, and skills are the final piece of the jigsaw if we are to maximise on the opportunities that we have created for engineering and manufacturing in the region. We have some of the finest engineers in the world and we have to make sure that we pass on their silks and knowledge to the next generation.”
Support for the programme which asks for a 3 year commitment from employers, to work with students so that they can explore, experience and prepare for jobs in manufacturing and engineering has grabbed the attention of companies such as DavyMarkham, Newburgh Engineering, Sheffield Forgemasters, AESSEAL and Firth Rixson…
