Local School’s Retro Event Raises Huge Sum for Charity
The students of Freeston Business and Enterprise College in Normanton co-ordinated an 80s themed fashion show extravaganza, Eight Oh! Lets Go! earlier this month and raised around £2,000 for Breast Cancer Care.
The event, which was project managed by Apprentice 2008 finalist and entrepreneur, Claire Young, involved over 200 students from the school, aged between 11 and 15, as well as local businesses and suppliers who provided practical workshops showing the students how to make various items, including cupcakes and jewellery, that they could sell at the event.
The students were heavily involved from the very beginning, choosing the name and theme of the event as the eighties due to the nation’s recent obsession with the decade. The dances, drama sketches, artwork and clothes were all 80s influenced and featured a soundtrack of classic retro music.
In total, around 200 tickets were sold and along with the Mayor of Normanton, Councillor Mrs Elaine Blezard, the attendees included friends and family of the students along with members of the local community.
