Ridgewod School - Real Business Challenge Regional Winners 2010
Ridgewood school from Doncaster has won this year’s Real Business Challenge in the Yorkshire and Humber region and will now head to London in January to compete against schools from across the UK.
Ridgewood School was among ten schools from across the region that won through to the regional finals of the Real Business Challenge held at Elland Road, Leeds, on 17 November judged by a panel made up of Terry Hodgkinson, Chair of Yorkshire Forward, Coca-Cola Enterprises, Real Radio, the Young People’s Enterprise Forum, Deirdre Bounds (Young People’s Enterprise Ambassador for Yorkshire & Humber) and Phil Packer MBE.
Launched in 2005, the Real Business Challenge links with local employers and gives young people authentic experience of the business world - this year every school in the Yorkshire and Humber region was invited to design a football-themed sports drink to celebrate this summer’s World Cup in South Africa.
At the regional final, the ten teams were given a new business challenge. Keenly observed by the judges, students were provided with manufacturing and marketing budgets as well as pricing guidelines and teams were judged on their enterprise skills, including team-work, creativity, marketing, financial control and presentation skills. Throughout the competition, the teams participated in a variety of workshops. The backing of Coca-Cola provides fantastic resources, including the support of a dedicated business professional for each team at the regional final. Real Radio facilitated each team in developing and recording a radio jingle in support of their presentation.
Ridgewood School, Doncaster triumphed with the highest overall score. The recipient of the judges’ individual award for Exceptional Leadership was Aimee Stanfield from Yarborough School, Lincoln. Real Radio presented their award for the Best Radio Ad to High Storrs School, Sheffield.
