Enterprising Yorkshire - Inspiring Young Minds

Youngsters invited to do the business!

The Step Up Enterprise team at Bradford Council has announced the launch of the Market Challenge competition 2011, following the success of the first Market Challenge which took place in June (see photo).

The competition is aimed at young people aged five to 19 and offers them an opportunity to develop a product or business idea which if successful will be sold on a market stall.

Next year the Market Challenge will be even bigger as a Keighley strand has been added and teams can choose whether to compete on Keighley’s Church Green or Darley Street in Bradford.

Step Up, Enterprise working in partnership with Bradford Council’s business development project Kickstart, will launch the first stage of the competition in September when all primary, secondary and special schools, youth and community groups in the district will receive an information pack containing all details of the competition.

Councillor Ralph Berry, Executive Member for Children’s Services and Education, said: “Everyone who takes the opportunity to get involved with this scheme will gain valuable commercial experience and some may be inspired to use it as a springboard to develop future business careers.

“I would urge as many youngsters as possible to give it a go. You never know – we could unearth some enterprise giants of tomorrow.”
