Enterprising Yorkshire - Inspiring Young Minds

Real Business Challenge 2009 - Winners announced!

Nov 20, 2009

The Annual Real Business Challenge reached its finale on Friday 20th November and children from Queen Margaret’s School, York, were crowned the winners. Pupils from Queen Margaret’s School battled it out against eleven other Yorkshire schools to be named the winners in the Real Business Challenge, organised by the Young People’s Enterprise Forum, Yorkshire Forward and Coca Cola Enterprises.

The children were given a brief to launch a new soft drink to market. As part of the challenge pupils were asked to create a presentation to the panel of judges, write and record a radio jingle and provide an entire business strategy.

Kate Walsh, the new presenter of ‘Live from Studio Five' and runner up in The Apprentice 2009, was the guest judge and was on hand to give the students advice and help during the day.

Kate said: "This has been such a fantastic day and all the students did brilliantly. It was a hard decision when picking the winner but it had to be done.

The Real Business Challenge is a great idea and I think it's essential for young people to develop their skills in an increasingly competitive job market. Hopefully this project will perhaps inspire some future entrepreneurs!"
